“On Being an Introvert”
“The funny thing about introverts is once they feel comfortable with you, they can be the funniest, most enjoyable people to be around. It’s like a secret, they feel comfortable sharing with you, except the secret is their personality.” -Unknown author
I often wondered why I find it so much easier to say things in writing, then I can in conversation. Today I learned that’s the way introverts are. I learned a lot of other positive things that I wish I’d known in my earlier years. Like we’re not necessarily shy, stuck up or stupid. We’re simple thinking, observing and reflecting. Writing gives us the chance to express all the wonderful things going inside our heads. When we try to speak our thoughts in conversation, we often can’t catch hold of the words that are spinning around in our head, that’s why they often come out garbled. Another thing I learned is because we are always thinking, analyzing, absorbing we are constantly exercising our brain which keeps it healthy. That’s a huge plus for us introverted seenagers.
I always thought being introverted made me inferior to everyone else. I had to be more extroverted to be accepted in the world. So I’d do the things that felt uncomfortable because I thought I needed to change myself. What I learned along the way was that being comfortable with who I am had to come first. That meant accepting my introverted personality. As acceptance came so did the comfort that allowed me to step outside myself and become a little more social. In the process I began to see another side of my personality that had been as much a secret to me as it was to everyone else. I often leave a conversation anymore asking myself, did that actually come out of you?
