It’s been said that pealing back the layers of our life is likened to pealing an onion. The deeper you go within the layers the more it makes you cry.The tears of an onion come from a chemical irritant. But the tears I’m talking about come from what the pealed layers reveal to us. Some tears come from the sadness we see, and some tears will be tears of joy. It’s not what we see on the outside that determines who we are, but what we discover after the layers are piled back. It’s getting to the center of the onion that we taste its sweetness, and in that same place we discover who we’ve always been.
